Version Control
Return to Introduction  Previous page  Next page
The key feature of any SCM tool is its ability to identify and control the software and software-related components of a project as they change over time. Individual members of the development team need to be able to undertake the tasks assigned to them without interference from other team members. As each task is completed, the results need to be made available to other team members to assimilate into their own work when required.

Version Control allows the maintenance of a history of the changes to a component as it evolves over time and allows access to any revision of a file, not just the latest.
